On a mainly warm and sunny day, but with a short rain delay during the middle of the day, 14 players battled it out on the courts in the annual open singles competition in memory of NB&TC club member, Steve Campbell, who sadly died at a young age.
The tennis played was once more of the highest quality, enjoyed by the large number of spectators present and culminating in an excellent final between last year’s winner, Ellis Porter, and first team captain, Declan Pilling.
The final had many breath-taking rallies and was very close, being decided on a tie-break, which saw Ellis Porter retain the trophy he won last year.
Steve’s parents, Patsy and Pete Campbell, were on hand to assist NB&TC President, Sylvia Johnson, make the presentations at the end of the day.
