In this strangest of years, the first organised tennis competition of the year finally took place …… at the end of September!
The Steve Campbell Memorial Tennis Trophy – an annual singles competition played in memory of the much-loved former club member who sadly died at a young age – was played on Saturday, 26th September.
The competition was organised in accordance with the latest LTA Covid-secure guidelines, with only a limited group of spectators present.
As usual there was some excellent tennis on display, including some strong showings from the junior players in the early round-robin group stage.
In the semi-finals, Dominic McVittie beat Dave Lomas and Declan Pilling overcame the 2018 and 2019 winner, Ellis Porter.
In an exciting final, Dominic beat Declan by 6 games to 4.
The trophy presentation, with social distancing measures in place, was made by Steve’s parents, Pete and Patsy Campbell.
