Match reports from this month’s action-packed Club competitions, by Chris Whalley.

• Sunday 19th August 2018, 12.30pm start: Ladies and Mens Handicapped Singles with short sets and separate competitions. Juniors who can serve and rally are welcome to enter.

On a grey day, which started out with a light drizzle but finished with a few rays of sunshine, the club’s tennis players competed for both the Men’s and Ladies’ Handicapped Singles titles. The winner of the ladies’ tournament was Ella Whitehead, who beat Lynn Reid in a close final. The men’s competition was won by Declan Pilling who managed to overcome a tough handicap, starting every game at -40, and defeating Dave Lomas in the men’s final.

• Monday 27th August 2018, 12.30pm start: Bonus Ball Shield ‘Fun’ Doubles Comp. Juniors who can serve and rally are welcome to enter. Just £2 entry. Jacobs join buffet so please bring some food with you.

Originally scheduled for Sunday 26th August, this year’s Bonus Ball Shield was moved due to the wash out, to Bank Holiday Monday. Some hardy players battled against the blustery winds, competing in their doubles.

This year’s winners were Lynn Reid and James Turton (pictured below). Runners-up were Martin Reid and Tyler Cleary.
